Board & Train Video Playlist
You can watch Board & Trains in work and the follow-up lessons that are included to help transfer the Obedience and understanding to the owners. These videos serve as a resource for our clients to go back and refer to. We believe in complete transparency when working with clients and prospective clients and want those interested to be able to see how we work and the knowledge we bring.
You can find out more about each program by reading the descriptions provided below the table. To learn which program is right for you, you can schedule a consultation with one of our trainers. They will assess your dog and your wants. From there, they will be able to tell you what you can expect from each program with your dog.

Chicago’s Best in On & Off-Leash Obedience is Now Offering Board & Train Programs in Logan Square!
About Canine Perspective’s New Dog Boarding Facility
Jesse San Miguel, Master Dog Trainer and Dog Behavior Expert, is excited to be able to offer Board & Train programs once again! The same high level, reliable in any environment, off-leash obedience that Canine Perspective has become known for, but we do the work for you! Student of world-renowned Richard Heinz, The Miami Dog Whisperer, Jesse provides the same level of high-end obedience and behavior modification taught by his mentor.
Holiday Rates
Board & Trains booked over major holidays like Memorial Day, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years will incur additional boarding fees as Jesse will not be training those days. You will be informed of any specifics during the scheduling of your dog’s training program.
Ready to Reserve?
To begin the onboarding process for a Board & Train click HERE to enroll your dog into our facility. A consultation is required so that we can set you up with the appropriate program.
Half of the program price that you choose will be required to hold your dog’s Board & Train spot. The second half of the program price and cost of training collars are due immediately after you are contacted to schedule your dog’s Board & Train program.
Board & Trains are taught with Herm Sprenger Prong Collars and the appropriate Dogtra e-collar (both purchased separately) for your specific dog’s body size and personality type. Canine Perspective will inform you of what collars your dog will need. Jesse will not train with any other brand of collar nor will he train your dog with a collar not designated for your dog’s build and personality. This is to ensure consistency in the quality of obedience amongst all his clients.
Questions & Answers
Transference.
Jesse has worked with countless families after a failed Board & Train (sometimes even multiple) program(s). Even with follow up lessons, it just doesn’t click and in Jesse’s opinion, this is because most trainers don’t actually know how to train with a remote collar. That or the trainer will claim, “the dog knows everything, you’re just not doing it right.” Well, if that’s the case, then the trainer did a poor job of explaining the process of the remote collar or didn’t do any real exercises to transfer the obedience over.
The remote collar is the most effective training tool because of the high-rate of transference, but only when taught correctly. Canine Perspective understands the value of investment its clients make when choosing a Board & Train option and wants to reassure its clients that they will get what they paid for and ensure them that the training will transfer over to them as well.
Canine Perspective only trains with the Dogtra brand e-collar.
Yes. Please refer to the Consultation FAQ page for more information.
Yes! Much of the work is already done, but obedience to the owner is very much reliant on the nature of the relationship. If your dog sees you as a buddy, it is very likely that you will have issues with your dog listening even after a board & train because you need to establish yourself as an authority figure. This does not mean you have to be mean to your dog, but you have to follow through with the exercises and application of remote collar as instructed otherwise, your dog will revert back.
There can be a disconnect between the owner and dog in what the dog has been taught and how the owner is supposed to apply those things. For example, if someone takes their dog in because they are dog reactive (barking and lunging at dogs) they believe the dog will return non-reactive. When in reality, the dog should have the training to a degree where the owner can prevent the dog from going into reactivity, but only if they know how to apply the obedience. Many owners believe that they will get back a dog and it will knowingly make decisions on its own without any direction. This is not true.
Jesse has worked with countless families after failed trainers and B&Ts so he has a very good understanding of how to teach clients to take what their dog has learned and how to apply it to address problem behaviors. This is very important in the dog’s continuing success and behavior management.
Depending on the case, Canine Perspective may not recommend Board & Trains when dealing with dog reactivity, dog and human aggression, separation anxiety, or other behaviors. This is because we believe it is important that you, as your dog’s primarily handler, understand how to prevent behaviors from happening and how to stop it if it is already in effect. Also, you do not see the work behind the change in your dog’s behavior that really helps you understand how the exercises work and why they work.
Canine Perspective wants all its clients to have the necessary tools and understanding required to confidently control their dog after training. So, if Jesse believes that all you need is 6 classes of private training instead of a 3-week Board & Train, he will recommend you do the private training. Jesse has built his career on complete transparency with his clients and he will not upsell you simply because it brings in more money. He wants what is best for both the human and dog in the long run.
Lastly, in many cases, dogs will not exhibit the same behaviors at a facility because they are out of their environment making it difficult to address. Other behaviors like Separation Anxiety are directly related to the owner and Board & Trains are ineffective here because the owner needs to address their dog’s attachment themselves.

1-Week Board & Train: Tune-Ups
Full Price: $1,200
Pro-rated Single Day: $180
Additional Week: $1,100
1 Private Lesson included with each Tune-Up week purchased.
1-Week Tune-Ups are for past clients that may have eased up on reinforcing training over the Winter months and would like to have their dog back on track. Everything the dog knows will be reviewed and proofed in a distracting environment. Must have completed at least a 2-Week Board & Train program or 6-Week In-Person Training Program.
Board & Trains are currently only available for obedience and minor behavior issues.
1-Week Board & Train: On-Leash
Full Price: $1,750
2 Hours Of Follow up Training Included.
1-Week On-Leash Board & Trains are done with a prong collar and slip chain. The minimum age requirement is 6 months.
Commands taught are Heel with Auto-Sit, Sit/Stay, Down/Stay, Place, and foundational Recall (Come when called).
2-Week Board & Train: Foundational Off-Leash
Full Price: $2,750
4 Hours Of Follow Up Training Included.
2-Week Board & Trains jump right into e-collar training and is recommended for stable dogs as they recover from the stress of training quickly. In some cases, a dog may need to be started on Prong Collar and Slip Chain to ease them into pressure-work which may affect the level of obedience they will achieve during their stay.
Puppies are NOT eligible for this length of program as it does not allow enough time to introduce your puppy to pressure concepts. Puppies must do at least a 3-Week Board & Train, see below.
Commands taught are foundational Off-Leash Heel with Auto-Sit, Off-Leash Recall, Sit/Stay, Down/Stay, and Place/Stay.
Distance and Duration are the main focus of the 2-Week Board & Train. Meaning the distance in which your dog will still listen and the length of time they are capable of holding a Down or Place command (up to 1 hour).
3-Week Board & Train: Comprehensive Off-Leash (Recommended)
Full Price: $3,750
6 Hours Of Follow Up Training Included.
3-Week Board & Trains begin with Prong Collar and Slip Chain (purchased separately) to accustom your dog in a more natural way to e-collar work and is highly recommended for nervous, fearful, insecure, and anxious dogs as this allows more time to build your dog’s confidence. All dogs benefit from this approach, but stable dogs like Copper (YouTube video on the top right) recover much more quickly and can jump right into remote collar work.
Puppies over 6-months must do this length program at minimum as it allows Canine Perspective to introduce the puppy to pressure concepts appropriately. Longer programs are even better for puppies over 6-months. Price remains the same as your puppy will perform at the same level an adult dog could.
Commands covered are On & Off-Leash Heel with Auto-Sits, Off-Leash Recall, Sit/Stay, Down/Stay, and Place/Stay.
Distance, Duration (up to 2 hours), and Distraction are all worked on to proof your dog’s obedience.
4-Week Board & Train: Complete Off-Leash
Full Price: $4,750
Additional Week: $1,025
8 Hours Of Follow Up Training Included.
4-Week Board & Trains send your dog home fully trained to be both On & Off-Leash reliable beginning with Prong Collar & Slip Chain to introduce your dog to the concept of pressure and then phased into e-collar. This program is for those that want complete control in any environment from restaurant patios to hiking.
Puppies over 6-months can do this program.
Commands covered are On & Off-Leash Heel, Finish, Off-Leash Recall, Sit/Stay, Down/Stay, and Place/Stay.
Distance, Distraction, and Duration (holding commands for an indefinite time) are all proofed during your dog’s stay at our facility. Your dog will have a very demanding training routine as he or she will be handled throughout the day so that their obedience is being applied in as many scenarios as possible. Adding additional week or weeks allow for more time to proof the obedience and add in more advanced training concepts.
